Why we are different:
I recently went into Bobs, Ashleys & Value City looking to see the construction, styles, durability and pricing of my competitors children's bedroom furniture, I must share with you my impressions of these 3 places:
Construction: The furniture was typically made of real cheap flake board that had wood looking wall paper glued to it, the drawers were extremely wobbly, unaligned & showing gaps already and their drawer bottoms that will not hold any amount of downward pressure at all (my kids are pro's at stuffing a laundry basket of clothes into a single drawer).
Styles: Their styles were pretty bland, they all had a white glam looking girls bedroom set and maybe a couple of boring looking boys collections in their so called "Kids Department". They all had a combined total of 16 kids sets, that is alot of running around store to store just to see 16 cheap bedroom sets.
Durability: Let me be frank, Bobs & Ashley had just one set that I would qulify as being "sort of" durable, the majority of their displayed kids sets would not last a solid year in my house before the handles were coming off, the drawers had to be restapled and glued and the granola bar looking flake board shavings have to be vacuumed up by my O.C.D. wife.
Pricing: All 3 stores were chasing that magical $599 to $899 (5) piece package for a kids bedroom set (headboard, footboard, 2 siderails, dresser & mirror) and by the time you added the chest and a nightstand, that package was well over $1500.
So what did I learn, I found out that even cheap furniture is not really cheap any longer, I can see if a complete kids set came in at $400 and I could buy a new one in 2 years when another one is needed, but that is not sensible and bad for the enviromnment.
I believe children's furniture, out of all of the furniture in your home, should be built with kids in mind instead of profits in mind, I believe that the customers should be shown the difference between promotionally priced children's furniture and furniture that is truly built to be used thru their growing years and then eventually be used as guest room furniture. My furniture is not cheap, but it is also not cheaply made, it is built with kids in mind and is meant for families who want to buy better built furniture and only have to do it just once.
So if real quality, a large selection and stylish designs is what you are craving, our family run store nicely displays over 40 well built children's bedroom sets in our 12,000 sq. ft., 2 story showroom.
